A little about us

Developed by test engineers, for test engineers

Volcano grew organically from our experiences spent working in the field. Our team has developed and fine-tuned tools over the past decade to remain on the technological edge of accepting new products and features into telecommunications and satellite networks. Volcano fills the gaps left by commercial test solutions and innovates beyond those of niche players.

Our team has worked at and with top wireless communications providers. From strategy to software development to test execution, we understand how networks work—and what it takes to keep them running. We have managed and executed the entire lifecycle management for customers, from concept to acceptance to care, for:

  • user equipment (UE)
  • radio access network (RAN)
  • core network
  • feature integration (including PTT and encryption)

We have worked on unique programs and projects for custom one-off technologies as well as highly standards-driven solutions. Our technical capabilities are only surpassed by our commitment to customer service.

We’ve ridden in your test vans.

Every member of our team hails from top wireless communications providers and is recognized as a leader in their field. From strategy to software development to test execution, we understand how networks work—and how business gets done. Our technical capabilities are only surpassed by our commitment to customer service. We are small and agile, capable of fine-tuning a release or developing a critical feature.

AKSHAY CHOUGULE

With 5+ years of programming experience and a Master’s in Computer Science from Syracuse University in hand, Akshay Chougule brings a demonstrated history in mobile development to Mobile Frontiers. Mr. Chougule not only excels in mobile application programming for both Android and iOS, but he also holds expertise in designing, developing and testing.

GREG WOHLFORD

Greg Wolhford holds a wealth of knowledge and expertise: embedded software development, software design patterns, device driver development, C/C++ programming and the list goes on. Plus, he has worked on key components for the Hubble Space Telescope, created patented techniques, led numerous device projects and ran software architecture efforts for tactical radios.

HAZIMA JAVAID

Mobile Frontier’s senior systems engineer, Hazima Javaid, has training in model-based systems and holds a Master’s in Industrial and Systems Engineering from North Carolina State University and a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Tech. As a systems engineer, Ms. Javaid is responsible for managing technology development by defining customer requirements, mapping them to development efforts and ultimately ensuring they pass comprehensive tests and acceptance programs.

JOEL HAHN

Joel Hahn primarily specializes in embedded systems and protocol/communications back-end server software—and with 25 years of experience, he knows how to deliver. He’s written embedded radar control software for the Flight Management subsystem of the B-2 and even embedded bulk storage software for the Control Data Subsystem of the Cassini spacecraft at NASA/JPL—where his software landed on Saturn.

MATTHEW CAPLAN

While his time in the field might be short, his capabilities prove otherwise. At Mobile Frontiers, Matthew Caplan writes, proliferates and executes software test plans while maintaining testing and production environments, troubleshooting network issues and, of course, finding solutions. He also onboards and educates new team members, particularly in sharing his expertise with domains.

MICHAEL KATZ

As a Senior Program Manager, Michael Katz doesn’t only hold skills in C-level leadership, program management, staff mentorships and team management—but he also brings hands-on experience to mobile Frontiers as he has served on or chaired five boards, including ones for public schools and Canadian corporations. He also helped expand corporate programs from the United States to NATO (Belgium, Luxembourg and Afghanistan), Canada and Singapore.

RICHARD CANNING

From being a communication specialist in the Canadian army to a field technician at Nextel, Richard Canning has done it all within his 25 years of experience in the wireless industry. Whether it’s satellite or LTE networks and devices, Mr. Canning has been an instrumental team player in each and every one of his projects with Nextel, Sprint, Rohde and Schwarz, Anritsu, Samsung and more.
